Net zoals kernenergie, nanodeeltjes in
Beleid is

Fracking Caused 2 Earthquakes In

A New report out confirms that it was
"Highly Probable" that they were caused by Fracking.

Act to stop gas drilling

Brabant zit misschien op gouden bergen. In de grond zit schaliegas, een aardgas. In Haaren
veiligheid.
In Arid South African Lands,
Fracking Controversy Emerges
The contentious practice of hydrofracking to extract underground natural gas has now made
its way to South Africa's Karoo, a semi-desert known for its stark beauty and indigenous
plants.
Mayor Brad Woodside is reiterating that New Brunswick's capital city is off-limits to
companies that want to employ hydro-fracking techniques to search for shale gas or
petroleum.
New York's Department of Environmental Conservation is expected to release its latest
environmental impact study on natural gas production in the Marcellus Shale region this
week.
Natural gas fracking needs to be
monitored, panel says
Hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking," in shale formations should be monitored
closely for its environmental effects, a federally appointed panel recommended Thursday.
Scientists send letter of
disapproval to Dept. of Energy over fracking panel
A group of 28 scientists from 22 universities have sent a letter to Secretary of Energy
Steven Chu criticizing his picks for a DOE panel that is studying the safety and promise
of hydrofracking, saying that the board is heavily tilted toward gas industry interests.
Wyoming regulators exempt 146
'fracking' chemicals from public disclosure
Wyoming regulators have agreed to keep secret the identities of 146 chemicals used in
hydraulic fracturing since disclosure rules went into effect nearly a year ago, according
the the state's oil and gas supervisor.
Fracking Operations Cause Thousands
of Earthquakes in Arkansas
The Arkansas Oil and Gas Commission placed a ban on fracking wastewater wells in the area
yesterday. A moratorium on well activity had been in place for months as geologists
investigated a possible link between fracking activity and the outbreak of more than 1,200
earthquakes that measured lower than 4.7 in magnitude.
One Tainted Water Well, and Concern
There May Be More
For decades, oil and gas industry executives as well as regulators have maintained that a
drilling technique known as hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, that is used for most
natural gas wells has never contaminated underground drinking water.
Anyone who has seen the Oscar nominated documentary Gasland will be aware of the potential
damage that Fracking can do to both the environment and peoples health.
In Arid South African Lands,
Fracking Controversy Emerges
The contentious practice of hydrofracking to extract underground natural gas has now made
its way to South Africas Karoo, a semi-desert known for its stark beauty and
indigenous plants. But opposition is growing amid concern that fracking will deplete and
pollute the areas scarce water supplies.
Gas Fracking Poses Serious
Environmental Risks, Panel Finds
Natural-gas companies risk causing serious environmental damage from hydraulic fracturing
unless they commit to the best engineering practices, a task force named by Energy
Secretary Steven Chu concluded.
What started as one couples fight against gas drilling in their local park grew into
a campaign to save more than 700,000 acres of Pennsylvania forest.
South Africa faces environmental
concerns over fracking
Farmers in South Africa's Karoo region fear fracking could devastate their environment in
the face of a desperate need for alternative energy supplies to fuel its growing economy.
Using a process called hydraulic fracturing, one drills into the ground - then
horizontally as small explosions pierce the shale rock. Water, sand and chemicals are then
forced into the rock to release the gas.But fracking is controversial and locals are
concerned about what impact that is going to have on the environment. Oil companies insist
that drilling for gas in Africa's largest economy will bring jobs and development --
without destroying the environment.
ingeschakeld.
I've recently written about the moratorium the South African government has imposed on
hydraulic fracturing, the polluting and water-intense method to extract natural gas from
underground layers of shale rock also referred to as fracking.

Their high-dollar campaign to put a happy face on this risky practice is designed to

Incidents where hydraulic
fracturing is a suspected cause of drinking water contamination
For years the drilling industry has steadfastly insisted that there has never been a
proven case in which fracking has led to contamination of drinking water.
